Day of Wandering

21 December 2017

Bocadillos off Ramblas Catalunya
An easy day without much of an itinerary, but one full of fun photo ops. We headed down towards El Born, hoping to explore some new squares and alleyways around the historic El Call (Jewish neighborhood).

Stopped for the obligatory bocadillo at noon (this one a bit bigger than we had anticipated).
We went through Catalonia Square just about the time I remembered that this was Election Day, but were happy to find a perfectly normal scene with children torturing pigeons. No protests in sight.

We bought tickets to a Palau de la Música tour for tomorrow at 10:00, and then wandered through the old streets to the soap store off Plaça de Sant Felip Neri.

Funny, we’d been near this quiet square in the past, but never actually seen it. It’s lovely and secluded, and the soap store is right around the corner. We pick up gifts here, and then continue our slow walk through the alleyways and squares.

Kitty finds us a good restaurant nearby (El Portalon), so we stop there for lunch about 3:00. She gets the menu of the day, and I get an avocado, grapefruit and shrimp salad—really delicious.

We continue our stroll onto Las Ramblas. We’ve seemed to end up down in this Gothic area just about every day since we’ve been here, and haven’t even been up to Gràcia yet. We stop in the grocery store for wine and tissue on our way home. Kitty is getting a cold despite a day of protestation that she is not sick.

In the evening, I work on photos while Kitty rests.  We have chicken sandwiches for dinner. Sorry Kitty’s gotten a cold, but what a nice day. I can feel myself relaxing into the photography.
