San Pol de Mar

The day promises to be warm and sunny.  We decide to train it up to a small beach town north of Barcelona call San Pol der Mar.  Lorena made us sandwiches for a picnic and we headed out to the train station.  We are getting more savvy with purchasing train tickets and knowing where to go.
Waiting for the Train

The ride on the train was fabulous.  We had read that it was the first rail train in Spain and they put it right next to the ocean.  Great for train travel not so much for the little towns across the train tracks.  The sea was was so much fun to watch.  Lots of little inlets and spaces with wide sandy beaches.  There were tons of families, children and dogs all enjoying the Saturday .

The little town was stacked on the hillside with whites washed houses that had blue shutters and doors.  Like something out of central casting.  Lorena took off immediately up the hill to take pictures.

After walking around Lorena found a local restaurant named Margot.  (We had eaten our picnic on the train–oops) We ordered a “half portion” (one course instead of two) and I asked for white wine and Lorena asked for red.  They brought us two big carafes of wine which made us happy.  We got chicken with shrimp.  The chicken had a shrimp sauce.  The ride back on the train was sleepy.

As we got closer to BCN, the crowds on the trains grew. Our walk from Catalunya Square to the top of Passeig de Grácia was pretty much a mob scene—it could have been summer, though less English than we’ve heard in the past. As usual, the crowds thin as we approach our apartment—I love that sensation of the quiet neighborhood!
