Feb. 3 2019
Quite Sunday at home. The wind is really blowing. The. weather promises to break soon and give us 65 to 70 degree temps (did we pack shorts?- no) but for now the wind is fierce. Lorena is excited and gets up before light to go and take pictures. (“It’s the best time you know”). I manage to stay in bed and sleep. The apartment is so lovely and fun to just be in and the sky is bright blue.
I’m determined to get some photos early Sunday before the crowds come, but had not counted on the cold (45F) and 30 mph. wind. Even with that, it’s lovely to watch the sun rise and highlight the multiple towers. I’m sure I’ll be back to these main sights, but this was a good introduction for me. It was super quiet between the cold and the day–only the occasional church goer, cop car and stray taxi. I saw one brave group of Chinese tourists following their tour guide. The wind blew some glass partitions from a restaurant patio and I ran for it before I realized the danger. A wait server ran and caught it with me–very dramatic considering the damage it might have caused. It was starting to really fly.

Lorena returns from her photo safari and we eat a simple lunch. Then we bundle up and head out. We find our way to a market called Colon – a giant covered food court with many restaurants and bars. Lorena wants to stop and get a Vermut. For some reason I am saturated and resistant to stopping. Can you believe Kitty not up for alcohol?

Then we pass a small oyster restaurant that Lorena had previously pointed out. Ostras Pedrin. We go in and order Vermut and oysters. (Do people eat oysters with Vermut?). The waitress is concerned that we understand that there is just 39 minutes till closing. I get the idea that come four PM on Sunday everything shuts down. We enjoy the large fresh oysters and I like trying to translate the menu.

Back at home we watch bad English speaking TV and eat left over pasta and kale for dinner. What a lovely Sunday in Valencia.
