Lunch with a View

View from Sky Restaurant

The day was brisk with bright sun.  We headed over to the train station to buy our tickets to Budapest and Graz.   While riding the trams it is expected that people will get up and give older people, pregnant ladies etc. their seats. I see people get on and most of the time think “wait they are not older than me – I don’t have to give them my seat”.   When did we get this old?

When I sent out my email with the blog invitation, my friend from work Lizzie responded with “I’ll be in Vienna too.”  This coincidence was a thrill.  We made plans to meet Lizzie and her mother for lunch.  What fun to have a friend from home to share this experience with.  We head for an iconic rooftop café that has spectacular views of the city.  We chat and laugh and enjoy the food and view.  I can’t believe our luck in being able to have this time together.  Lizzie’s mother is a delight.  They are going to the opera La Boheme tonight.  This is not on Kitty and Lorena’s itinerary but I will enjoy hearing about it.

We finish up the day with a visit to the Hundertwasser house.  This is an architect who was inspired by Gaudi who is our favorite Barcelona architect.  The apartment building was  colorful and playful.  No straight lines, no windows are the same size.  Our friend Star would love it.  One difficult characteristic is that the floors undulate.  Not made for old ladies with weak ankles.

  1. I’m enjoying your narrative and photos so much, Lorena and Kitty – I know it takes a lot of effort, but speaking for your readers, we appreciate it! I feel like I’m back in Vienna but seeing so much more than I did years ago when the city was celebrating Mozart’s birthday and a composer-impersonator was on every corner and his music emanated from every doorway. May the good times continue for you!

  2. I write on here and never know if you see it. Somehow, this site doesn’t like me. I love all your posts and can get to them fine. Thinking of you two a lot and D and I enjoy it so much.

    1. Hi Jane, I’m trying an email response here. It looks to me as though you’re on now. Not sure if this will appear generally on the blog, but yes, we have seen responses from you and D. We head to Budapest tomorrow and say goodbye to Vienna. Love, K & L
