PEI Landscapes

Our bed is oh so soft and welcome.  Lorena gently wakes me at 7:00.  She had been up since 4:00 looking for fox (no luck).  After a quick coffee we are off!

Our first stop on the itinerary is the Anne of Green Gables house and grounds that they have recreated in Cavendish.  We are the only ones there at 8:00 on Sunday morning. Signs are careful to point out that the books are not autobiographical but rather a fictional rendition.  Oh well, the house is just as I imagined but the real treat is the garden and surrounding yard.

Plants are all blooming that I am used to seeing in a sucession at home.  Liliacs, iris (bearded and flag), ajuga, bluets all blooming with peonies almost there.  We take a short walk in the woods around the house.  There are tons of ostrich and cinnamon ferns.  There are no other people because it is so early.  If you don’t care about the display buildings and just want to see the house exterior and gardens this is the way to visit.

Next, we drive to the PEI National Park.  It is like the Blue Ridge Parkway in that it is slow, scenic driving with overlooks.  We stop at every one taking in the red rocky shoreline.

After walking on the beach, we head for the Blue Mussel Café in North Rustico.  I have to take a moment and praise Lorena for such wonderful planning.  This was the perfect spot to enjoy the food.  They harvest the oysters in the bay right there in Rustico and I have heard about PEI mussels all my life.  Wonderful to eat them on PEI.

With the sun, walking and local lager we are exhausted.  We stop and get some cold lobster for dinner and head back to our cabin for afternoon siesta.
