Dogs, Plants and Cats

Of course, I miss our dog Sebastian.  Our Trusted Housesitters have done a great job keeping us in touch (as with Kristi’s photo of Sebastian above). I am drawn to every dog/animal I see. I love to sit in the dog parks and watch the interaction of the dogs and humans.  The language is universal.  You have the aggressive dog that the others shun.  The sweet dog that everyone loves.  For people, the competition for the benches in the sun is fierce.

One day we ate lunch in Parc del Turó del Putxet. We found one of those sunny benches on the path to the dog park and it was like a parade.

There are so many dogs.  The dachshund is abundant and it makes me think of my sister in law Beth who loves the breed.  The Spaniard’s dress the dogs up and make sure they are warm.

We are in the 40s and 50s theses days in Barcelona.  Everyone including dogs are wrapped in warm clothing.  In the past I have packed sweaters and turtlenecks and never worn them.  This time I packed one long sleeved turtle necked shirt and I have had to wear it for a week.  So much for predictability.

The cats are not that present in the city but once we got out in the countryside we saw tons of cats.  They all seem feral and then not.  They seem approachable but then they run.  You see bowls of water and food out for them, but they were hard to spot.

The bougainvillea is blooming.  It makes for colorful cascades around the city.  But I have found the jade plants so impressive.  They are in full bloom.  We saw a bird of paradise in bloom.  I love seeing this plant in a garden setting.

Everyone seems a bit flipped out by the weather.  For instance, we see a cherry tree in bloom and are told, “This usually does not happen till April.”  They tell us it was really hot until mid-December and that this cold turn is really strange for them.

  1. Hi Kitty and Lorena, Star and I are enjoying the blog. It sounds like a very pleasant trip with no snafus – unheard of ! The weather here has been wet and cold. Star works on his big landscape project at Green River when weather permits. He is enjoying telling all the workers what to do – especially the guy in the tractor who places huge rocks for him. I am just waiting for Spring so I can go flower shopping at Painters. Enjoy your last two weeks! Love, Mary

    1. Hi Mary this is Kitty. So much for no snafus. I came down with a cold and of course Lorena had it two days later. I felt so guilty but what to do but hang low and stay in the apartment. I am dreaming of spring and plants too. Love K

  2. Wow–the plants there are having a lovely time, obviously. That jade plant in bloom is really something. And the bougainvilleas are so pretty!  We are having slightly colder than normal weather over here, too. But I am seeing sycamore trees beginning to bud way up at the top. Love reading your blog posts.  🙂 -KR

    1. We both have come down with colds. I guess it was inevitable. Our activity level has gone from 90 to 0 fast. It is wonderful to have enough time that it does not feel tragic to hang out for a couple of days.
